The Heat’s On

Even though it was snowing in Toronto, Troop members brought the heat. I hit the road to make 15 stops at neighbourhood houses to collect slightly used winter gear for the members of Sistering. The call went out for hats, mitts, and scarfs, what we got was all of that and more! We’re talking jackets, boots, ponchos, sweaters, slippers and even some much-needed undergarments.

We Got The Freezer!

It was touch-and-go there for a while – 24 hours before the freezer need was due to close and we were still only at 42% of our target. This need started on the Thanksgiving long weekend, which means the need had already been running for 9 days – and we were only at 42% of our target!

Kids Need A Good Night Sleep

It was soon into retirement when Dawn realized that she missed the school community, the kids most of all. Over the past 5 years, Dawn has been reconnecting with children on her mission to improve the educational environment of kids-in-need, starting at home. With the help of her husband and now 40+ volunteers, her not-for-profit, Room For A Child, has redesigned the bedrooms of over 100 children living in undesirable conditions in the Toronto, York and Durham areas.

The World is Good.

If there was ever any doubt in my mind about starting Troop and the impact that a group of caring neighbours could have in their community, well that all went out the window this week.

This I know for sure now, baby poo is gross (I always knew that), but the world is good. Thank you to the amazing Troop members for being so gosh darn amazing.

Grocery Shopping Has Never Been So Stressful!

We put the call out to Troop members to help restock the shelves of the local food bank, the Parkdale Community Food Centre. So often, food banks experience shortfalls in the summer months (makes sense… most people aren’t thinking about donating their cans when they need to focus on beating the weekend traffic to cottage country).

Now These Kids are Ready for School

We were impressed when we first heard about Juanes and Dishaly and their backpack drive to help refugee kids attending school for the first time next week. They wanted to raise enough money (or receive product donations) to offer 39 backpacks to kids new to Canada. So we put the need out to Troopers….

Cleaning Dishes Has Never Been So Amazing

We’re jumping up and down. We’re doing cartwheels (who knew you could still do a full cartwheel as an adult?!). We’re high-fiving like we just won the NBA championship (ah, good memories!). We did it. We hit our $500 target to help the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre get a new dishwasher!
