I recently watched an interview between Oprah and Jennifer Lopez. Two women, I think we can all agree, in the prime of their lives, just killin’ it. They spoke about how J-Lo is redefining what it means to be 50 (like she did for ever other year of her life since the age of 30!). J Lo says, “just because I turned 50, it’s not over, we’re just at half-time right now.” Amen.
People make a lot of assumptions about women over a certain age and what they are capable of. This week, we featured Wendy, a woman courageously jumping into the second half of her life. As a refugee from Eritrea, she arrived alone in Canada two months ago to embark on a new journey.
With help from Matthew House, she is dedicated to learning English so she can get a job and start to rebuild her life.
Wendy is a real life example of a woman approaching her 60’s and changing our preconceptions of what she is capable of. I’m darn happy that Troopers stepped up to give her a hand on her journey. We’re hooking Wendy up with a refurbished laptop from Reboot Canada to assist with her English studies and future job applications.
So, whether you channel J-Lo’s affirmations about being youthful and timeless or you take a page out of Wendy’s book and courageously step into your next journey, don’t let age be the thing that holds you back.
