A Coffee and Bagel for Our Sisters

Now's the time to help

Life seems to be grinding to a halt as our city and the rest of the world try to figure out how to deal with COVID-19.  Although productivity has slowed for many, organizations who offer support services to our most vulnerable neighbours have seen demand increase and expect things to get worse before they get better.

Sistering, our local women’s drop in centre and multi service agency, will continue to support socially isolated women and trans people who are homeless or precariously housed in Toronto, while taking the necessary precautions to help stop the  spread of COVID-19.

How you can help?

As Sistering adapts there services to maintain support for our community, we can lend a hand by pooling funds to purchase compostable takeaway containers (500 pack for $84 x 2) and $5/$10 (total $200) Tim Horton’s gift cards.

More Details: Sistering

Sistering is a charitable organization serving the socially isolated and marginalized women of Toronto. For over 35 years they have given a voice and hope to homeless and transient women, women leaving abusive situations, widowed and pensionless women and young women involved in sex work and drug use.

Their doors are open 24/7 to offer a safe, welcoming place. In addition to providing the basic necessities – hot food, shower and laundry facilities, clothes, internet access and a mailing address; they also provide the not so basic services like harm reduction support, counselling, peer support, onsite primary healthcare, access to settlement workers and 24/7 drop-in support.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.

Laughter is The Best Form of Therapy

During these trying times, we offer some light-hearted relief by sharing some of the most comical memes, videos and tweets that have popped up over the past few weeks. In the words of Mark Twain, “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” Enjoy.
