Babies Don’t Need Much

Birth Mark

Scratch that, babies need SO much

All a baby needs is some unconditional love and they’ll be fine.  Well, that and diapers, wipes, blankets, baby clothes, a stroller, a crib, a few toys and one those white noise machines (that’s a must!).  Babies need loads!

The expenses that pop up after a baby arrives home can be surprising and often times hard to handle.  Birth Mark, a registered charity in Toronto and Hamilton offering free doula services to marginalized parents, sees the burden these costs can have on a new mom struggling to care for her baby.  The Birth Mark doulas offer post natal support including access to some of the unexpected items needed to encourage the healthy growth and development of their clients’ babies.

How you can help

The Birth Mark moms need infant vitamin D drops.  Just another “I need to buy what now?” baby expense that a lot of families don’t have the extra budget for.  We’re pooling funds to purchase the drops at a wholesale cost of $6 a bottle.

More Details: Birth Mark

Birth Mark is a registered charity offering free doula services to marginalized and at-risk women experiencing poverty, homelessness, past traumas, or discrimination. Their 50+ doulas strive to ensure equal access to unbiased, non-medical, emotional, physical and evidence-based birthing support. The Birth Mark doulas work with women in the GTA and Hamilton during the prenatal period, labour & delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. Their continuous care makes the community they serve feel confident and supported in their birthing journey. Their work helps strengthen relationships among people & care providers in a meaningful way to promote, restore, maintain and enhance the well-being of their clients, their families and our community.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.
