Babies Need This

The last thing a mother wants to run out of

The run on toilet paper has thankfully subsided, only to be replaced by the run on… wait for it… DIAPERS!  What? No!

Yes!  Diapers are a hot commodity these days and here’s why, many of the support services that supply diapers and other baby items to parents in need are temporarily closed due to Covid-19.  And here’s the kicker, most of the parents accessing these services don’t have access to a credit card, so if the shelves are empty or if the parents need to socially isolate (which many new parents do), they can’t just put in an Amazon order or pick an Instacart delivery slot.

The parents that are hardest pressed for baby essentials right now are those residing at the isolation hotels in Toronto.  The hotels are set up by the government and supported by local charities to help vulnerable members of our community self-isolate if they test positive for Covid-19 or are awaiting test results.   New parents and parents with kids under the age of six are staying at the hotel.  Meals and snacks are provided, along with mental health and social service supports.  But that’s it.  No baby essentials.  No diapers.

How you can help

We’re pooling funds to purchase diapers, wipes, diaper cream and formula to help the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre team who are on site at the isolation hotels and working to make sure these moms have the extra items they need. Help us help the moms.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.
