Parkdale Parent's Primary Prevention Program

Double stroller for a family

Now that we’re almost at Stage 3, the mere fantasy of getting back to normal-ish has major appeal. Struggling with the loss of freedom has made even the best of us irritable and tirelessly bored. On the bright side, at least we’ve been able to stretch our legs and enjoy this beautiful weather.

For one family from the Parkdale Parents Primary Prevention Program, the great outdoors seems like a distant memory (say what?). They have a newborn baby boy and a one-year-old son with no stroller to take them out. Due to being jobless because of covid, they aren’t able to purchase one and don’t have a car to utilize. Outside walks are the saving grace in preventing a lot of us from going stir crazy, so it’s no wonder this family is going bonkers!

How you can help

Put a screeching halt to the cabin fever by giving your gently used and clean double stroller. We’ll arrange the pick-up, take it off your hands and give this family some much-needed sunshine.

Update:  This need has been fulfilled!

More Details: Parkdale Parent's Primary Prevention Program

Operating out of the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre, the Parkdale Parent’s Primary Prevention Program (5Ps) provides parenting, nutrition, resource and informational support to pregnant women and families with children 0-6 years living in the Parkdale – High Park – Bloor/Dufferin neighbourhoods.

Services are offered to families living on low or no income, newcomer families, homeless or under-housed parents, lone-parent families, parents facing mental health and/or substance use challenges, as well as youths who are parenting. Last year they helped 205 families plan for a healthy birth through their prenatal program and supported 175 families with 320 children through various postnatal programs and infant feeding programs. Their support services help to reduce the stressors on new families and encourage the healthy development of children in our community.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.

Laughter is The Best Form of Therapy

During these trying times, we offer some light-hearted relief by sharing some of the most comical memes, videos and tweets that have popped up over the past few weeks. In the words of Mark Twain, “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” Enjoy.
