Preventative Measures

Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher? For the lot of us, it’s an item tucked away that collects dust. How do you even use one? Let’s do a quick cobweb shake – remember the P.A.S.S method which stands for: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. There you have it…you’re welcome!

For homeless encampments across the city, fires are becoming a growing concern. As of May this year, firefighters have responded to 55 fires and counting. Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (PQWCHC) has been helping those living in these spaces, but the encampments are increasing in size, and their funding is limited. PQWCHC has seen some worrisome conditions for fire hazards, and they want to make sure the people living in these areas are safe.

How you can help

We’re pooling funds to give two fire extinguishers at $70 each, totalling $140 bucks to the folks at PQWCHC to allocate where most needed. Let’s alleviate some of the strain put on our firefighters and help our homeless neighbours feel more secure in their surroundings.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.
