Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre
Suppling some much-needed crafty fun
Have you heard about the Isolation Hotel? No, it’s not the latest Netflix mini-series.
The isolation hotel is for community members who are homeless or living in shelters in Toronto, who test positive for Covid-19 or are awaiting test results. It’s a safe location set up by the government and supported by local charities to help the vulnerable members of our community self-isolate.
The hotel is filling up with guests from all walks of life – homeless or precariously housed parents, mothers who have recently given birth, newcomers to Canada, people who use substances like drugs and alcohol and refugees. Meals and snacks are provided, along with mental health and social service supports. But that’s it.
No basic necessities are provided for a stay that will likely last between 14-26 days. Currently, there are 12 families with children between the age of 0-6 staying at the hotel. The Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre is on site and working to make sure these families have the extra items they need.
How you can help
We need to give these kids something to do. You can help out by pooling funds with your neighbours to cover art supplies and crafts for the kiddos. With your contribution, we’ll make a trip to a department store and send some much-needed fun their way.
