Tents and sleeping bags for the homeless
Are you a camper? There are those who love to rough it, get their hands dirty and be one with nature and all. Then there are others who choose to avoid camping with a ten-foot pole because of the dirt, grime, bugs (damn mosquitoes show no mercy), and everything in-between. There’s no shame in enjoying the finer things in life like showers, air conditioning and not needing to squat by a bush to go to pee.
For some Torontonians, camping has become a staple for shelter and every day living. More encampments have popped up due to the pandemic. Some homeless neighbours are even living in these spots without a tent or sleeping bag. Whether you’re down with camping or not, city camping poses a whole new stack of issues that even the wildest of camp enthusiasts would forgo.
How you can help
The folks are Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre are looking for donated tents and sleeping bags that are slightly used but in good condition. Register a pickup with us, and we’ll swing by to take that tent/sleeping bag off your hands so our city campers can sleep a lot more comfortably.
