Oasis Dufferin Community Centre
Peanut butter is a hot commodity
Many parents have been shocked to realize the volume of food their children eat in a given day. Is it possible that all these kids are growing brain cells at an alarming rate due to the unquestionable homeschooling skills of their parents? Or that all those hours of screen time are actually being spent doing PE with Joe, the Body Coach? Hum, possible.
A lot of us now realize how much school and daycare snacks helped supplement the grocery bills and how much our pre-pandemic daytime activities helped keep our minds off food.
Just as food consumption has likely spiked in your house, The Oasis Dufferin Community Centre has seen a sharp increase in demand for their weekly Food Bank service which supports neighbours in and around the Dufferin / Dupont area. Typically, anywhere from 145-150 households access their weekly food service. Since the start of Covid-19, they are seeing 25-30 new families every week. And the trend isn’t expected to let up, particularly as hardships caused by the pandemic settle in.
How you can help
Protein is their top requested item (peanut butter, tuna, and canned meat). We’re pooling funds for a shopping trip to restock their protein supply. A jar of PB can go a long way for a family with hungry kids!
