Teenage Boys Don't Fast

This family needs some budget relief

Budget anxiety is paying off the monthly bills only to realize you have $100 left over for food.  Apart from wishing your two teenage boys would buy into the health craze around fasting, or mentally willing the pandemic to disappear so the Immigration Office can plough through the backlog and process your work permit, options are minimal.  Welcome to life for one Latin American refugee family.

To mark the upcoming World Refugee Day on June 20, 2020, we want to provide some food budget relief for this mom and dad.  Even the most proficient coupon-clipper-bargain-shopper would struggle to hit the calorie quota for a family of four on $100 a month.

How you can help

We’re pooling funds for grocery store gift cards so this family can enjoy fresh fruits, veggies, eggs and meats – stuff they can’t get from a Food Bank.  The target?  Well, we all know how much teenage boys eat… nuff said.

$340.00 of $400.00 target

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.

Laughter is The Best Form of Therapy

During these trying times, we offer some light-hearted relief by sharing some of the most comical memes, videos and tweets that have popped up over the past few weeks. In the words of Mark Twain, “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” Enjoy.
