The Cost of Lockdown

Arrabon House

Help curb rising household expenses

Life is taking on a new normal and as this sets in we’re starting to realize the cost of lockdown and social isolation, and it goes well beyond Netflix and learning Spanish. Most people have had to rejig their life to adapt.   And most charities have had to rejig budgets to continue operating.

For Arrabon House, a registered charity and group home to women aged 13-19 in Parkdale, lockdown has brought on a slew of additional expenses.  With a packed house 24/7, they’ve been going through product essentials like nobody’s business.  From soap to paper towels, cleaning products to laundry detergent and toilet paper to toothpaste (for some reason we’re all brushing more often with Covid around?!).

How you can help

You can help this local group home stock up on essential personal hygiene and cleaning products by pooling funds. We’ll do the shopping trip at no cost and together we can help Arrabon House curb those additional expenses.

More Details: Arrabon House

Arrabon House offers counselling, mentoring, and life skills coaching to young women, including youth who are transitioning, between the ages of 13-24. Their 24-hour residential program is offered to women and those who identify as female between the ages of 13-19 in the Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto. Many of their residents are survivors of abuse, trauma, and mental health challenges. Through a safe, healing environment, they empower these youth to grow to their full potential and ease their transition into adulthood and independent living.

Arrabon is a Greek word that signifies a promise of new things to come, of hope. Which is exactly what they provide for the hundreds of youth who walk through their doors every year.

Troop Started a Year Ago – Is it Working?

It was a year ago this month that I started Troop. The idea was simple. I believed that if more neighbours knew about the needs in their area then they would be more willing to help. I believed (and still do!) that more people want to help

Is COVID-19 Actually A Good Thing?

COVID-19? A good thing? No. Hell no. But damn there is a seriously bright silver lining here and I hope I’m not the only one squinting. Devastation caused by the coronavirus has reached all corners of the world, but so has a level of compassion that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.

Laughter is The Best Form of Therapy

During these trying times, we offer some light-hearted relief by sharing some of the most comical memes, videos and tweets that have popped up over the past few weeks. In the words of Mark Twain, “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” Enjoy.
